Uses of Cosmetics

!±8± Uses of Cosmetics

Cosmetics have been in use since ages for improving the appearance of the person wearing them. Beauty cosmetics can make a drastic change in a person's features, as they enhance the best features and cover the blemishes.

People use lotions and creams to cleanse the skin deeply. This is not possible with regular soap and water. Deep cleansing opens the skin pores and removes other underlying pollutants. Blocked pores lead to the formation of acne and beauty cosmetics prevent this from happening.

At the same time, we cannot remove some imperfections so easily. Blemishes and dark spots are very common on most people's skin. The use of makeup, such as a good concealer can effectively cover up the imperfection. This results in a skin, which looks flawless. Makeup foundation is very useful in covering up imperfections, while giving the skin a smooth finish at the same time.

Makeup is a branch of cosmetics that deals with colored products that beautify a person's features or occasionally change them, such as in theatre. Different makeup is available for different parts of the face. However, sometimes, an alternative product provides the same effect. For example, a woman may use lipstick in place of blush to obtain a better definition of the cheeks.

Eye makeup is a very important part in any type of makeup. Highlighting the eyes is often the only cosmetic procedure followed by women. This is especially true for women, who lead busy lives. Defining the eyes alone can lighten up the face.

Eye makeup products include mascara, eyeliner and eye shadow. Occasionally, women also use makeup on their eyebrows. People use mascara to lengthen and give volume to their eyelashes. Eyeliner, on the other hand, defines the shape of the eyes. Eye shadow puts emphasis on the eyelids. Defining eyebrows usually utilizes an eyebrow pencil. The entire idea of eye makeup rests on the premise that larger eyes make the person look more youthful.

Lipstick defines the shape and the volume of the lips and a lip plumper gives an illusion of more volume. Powder works like a concealer, except that it might also give the person a fairer appearance. Other beauty cosmetics include nail polish, blush, and rouge and so on.

People use makeup, because it gives them a better appearance than natural. This increases their confidence and allows them to carry themselves confidently.

Makeup is safe as long as one applies it safely. Especially with eye makeup, one needs to take great care, as eyes are extremely delicate and sensitive. As long as the application is right and the product is safe, the user will not have any problems with makeup.

Thus, cosmetics are an important part of a modern person's life, as it gives him/her a safe alternative to surgery in order to enhance the facial features. With the application of cosmetics, one can easily achieve smooth features and thus, feel more confident in every sphere of life.

A Look Into Eyelash Tinting

!±8± A Look Into Eyelash Tinting

Using make-up may not be a viable option in certain situations such as going to the beach. You may however be a women who hates leaving home without at least some mascara on. There is a way you can swim whilst keeping the look you want. You do not need to use mascara when you have your eyelashes tinted.

Eyelash tinting involves dying your eyelashes in order to darken them. You can dye them whichever color will best match your complexion, from blue, brown, black to grey.

You may be interested in tinting your eyelashes for a number of reasons, you may swim a lot or take part in other sporting activities, or simply want to save time on applying make up each day. Perhaps you are overly sensitive to certain types of make-up. Eyelash tinting is perfect for people who wear contact lenses as mascara can be a problem if caught between the lenses and the eye, or mascara particles attach to the lens itself.

Eyelash tinting is an easy procedure involving vegetable dye for tint. It is carried out in salons and spas. The end appearance is incredibly natural. You are unable to lighten the color of your natural eyelashes with eyelash tinting.

Many people ask if this is possible when deciding whether to tint their eyelashes. It is important that the procedure is done safely, you should always be careful where your eyes are concerned.

The average eyelash tinting procedure will take fifteen minutes. This is a rather short amount of time out of your day, so not having the time is no excuse. When you get to the salon or spa, a therapist will carefully put cotton below your closed eyes and then apply a slight amount of vegetable dye to your eyelashes. The dye remains for 10 minutes then it is cleaned away with water. You can expect the eyelash tinting to last for four to six weeks.

It is a completely pain free procedure, however there is a risk of slight stinging if any dye gets into your eyes. If you are overly sensitive to hair dye or color additives then eyelash tinting is not advised for you.

There are do it yourself kits available, but it is best you avoid these unless you are a professional. You will always get best results with a therapist at a salon, and the procedure itself can be tricky. The results of eyelash tinting will last a long time and will look great when carried out by a trained beauty therapist.

Hair Removal Products

!±8± Hair Removal Products

When you have unwanted hair, you can use a hair removal product to help rid yourself of
This problem. There are many of these products on the market for you to choose from.
The different methods you can use include shaving, waxing, tweezing, applying creams
and using more permanent methods of laser and electrolysis. With the exception of laser
treatment, you can use products to help you get rid of the hair by yourself at home.

Shaving is the most common method of removal. This is something that you have to
do every three or four days. You need a razor and shaving cream or you can use an
electric shaver. Shaving does have a downside though. There will be bumps and possible
cuts if you are using a razor and you may experience a slight rash with either method.

Tweezing the eyebrows or some facial hair on the chin and upper lip is also effective as it
keeps the growth at bay for weeks at a time. It can be painful if you have to remove
lots of it. For eyebrow tweezing, you do have to be careful to make sure that you have
both eyebrows the same.

Applying creams dilutes the hair. You do have to leave the cream on for up to ten or
fifteen minutes and then wash it off. It washes off with the cream. The problem
with this method is that there is a strong smell to some of the creams and some people
may have an allergic reaction to the cream. If this is something you can use, the results
will last for several weeks before you have to redo the process.

Waxing is very commonly used by women to remove eyebrow, facial hair and hair from
the bikini area. In this process, hot wax is applied to a small area and covered with
material. Then it is pulled off very quickly. Although it is painful and leaves the treated
area red, it does last for several weeks before you have to repeat the process. It
also has to be at least ¼ inch long before you can remove it by waxing.

Unwanted Body Hair - 8 Ways to Get Rid of It

!±8± Unwanted Body Hair - 8 Ways to Get Rid of It

Unwanted body hair affects as many as 80% of women and up to 50% of men according to some surveys. No wonder there is a huge interest in the most economical, or most convenient, or longest lasting method of unwanted body hair removal.

Every individual is different when it comes to hair color and texture, rate of hair growth, and skin sensitivity. A method can work very well on one person but give quite unsatisfactory results on another. Hence, each person must evaluate the pros and cons of a given method, not least, the cost, and then experiment to see which will provide the most satisfactory results.

Here then are the 8 main hair removal methods:

1. Electrolysis

Electrolysis is listed first as it is generally regarded as the only real PERMANENT hair removal solution. That said, results can still vary so tests should be carried out first.

Of course, it can be costly with a wide range of charges depending on where you live. Charges can be as low as per hour and graduate to 0 or more per hour.

While there are three main type of electrolysis, they all use an electrical current to destroy hair at the root. Larger areas of skin may be quite expensive to treat as each hair has to be given individual attention.

Electrolysis can be used on nearly all parts of the body depending on a person's level of sensitivity. Some have compared the discomfort to the sting one can get from a rubber band.

2. Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal involves using a beam of light to disable the hair follicle. It is also generally regarded as a permanent hair removal method although some contest this as re-growth can occur in some instances.

It is cheaper than electrolysis as a wide area can be covered at a time. It can take months to disable all the hair follicles given the various hair growth cycles so many sessions are needed.

As facilities offering laser hair removal have mushroomed in recent years, be sure to check the qualifications of the practitioner and examine the clinic for a high standard of hygiene before signing up for a series of treatments.

Nearly all areas of the body can be treated.

3. Shaving

Shaving is a very popular, inexpensive method of hair removal. The only problem is, hair can come back after only 3 days or so. It is wise to shave in the direction of hair growth to avoid the risk of ingrown hair.

A woman should not shave her face as it creates a stubble effect which many women find unacceptable. Shaving is suitable for the underarms, legs and bikini line.

4. Waxing

Waxing is suitable for nearly all body areas (except for a man's facial hair due to the different root system). Results can last between 3 and 6 weeks.

In recent years, certain ingredients have been added so many waxing compounds which soothe and comfort distressed skin.

It is important to always pull the wax strip swiftly in the direction of the hair growth. Pressing firmly afterwards with the ball of the finger or with the hand can minimize discomfort. Some use an ice cube to calm the protesting nerve endings.

Hot waxes melt just above body temperature and when spread on the skin they trap the hairs as they cool. Cold waxes often come in pre-coated strips which are pressed onto the skin and then rip the hair out by the root.

5. Depilatories

Depilatories are convenient and inexpensive. They can cause skin reactions so need to be tested on a small area first but many newer depilatories on the market contain ingredients which minimize distress to the skin.

Depilatories work on the principle of dissolving hair. Strong chemicals break down the hair structure leaving a runny mixture which can be cleaned off the skin. Results may last for up to 2 weeks. Some find depilatories are not suitable for sensitive parts of the body such as the pubic area.

6. Sugaring

Sugaring solutions are preferred by some as they contain natural ingredients unlike waxing solutions. They are suitable for nearly all areas of the body and results can last from 3 to 6 weeks.

Results can vary greatly. Some find them excellent, others find they don't work for them at all. Experimentation is necessary.

7. Tweezing/Epilation

Tweezing is the usual method for eyebrow hair removal or stray hairs that may appear on sensitive parts of the body such as the nipples.

Tweezing is best done in strong light with a good quality pair of tweezers which can grip the hair firmly so it can be pulled out in one action without breaking. It is also a good method for the bikini line, chin, and upper lip, if a person has the patience! Hair may not return for at least 3 to 8 weeks.

Electrical epilators are very useful for body areas such as the legs or upper lip. These automate the tweezing action, ripping out the hair from the hair follicle.

8. Threading

Threading originates in Asia, often performed by practitioners from the Indian subcontinent. A cotton thread is twisted across the skin catching hair which then becomes entwined in the cotton. It is then lifted out by the root.

You need to find a local beauty salon that offers this service. Hair may not return for at least 3 to 8 weeks. It is generally used for a woman's facial areas such as the eyebrows, upper lip and chin.

Which Method?

A period of experimentation is probably needed before reaching a final decision as results can vary widely. However, with the vast array of hair removal products now on the market, it is possible to find a method that fits with your lifestyle with a little experimentation.

Convenience, cost, pain tolerance, and level of permanency, are the main considerations to take into account.

Waxing Defined: From Eyebrow to Full Brazilian Waxing

!±8± Waxing Defined: From Eyebrow to Full Brazilian Waxing

For thousands of years, starting as early as 4,000 BC, the women practiced body shaving. European and American women started this practice more frequently in 1940, when he began shrinking swimsuits. When the bikini was growing in popularity, began to be a need for more effective removal of body hair. There are a variety of natural options of hair removal: shaving, plucking, depilatory creams, waxing and laser hair removal.

This article focuses on growthoptions and trends, especially for the San Diego area (where bikini season is most of the year, for better or worse). The goal is to share options, trends, do's and don'ts - to help you make the best choice for you, in this growing popular practice that is currently found at most day spas.

What is Waxing?

Waxing involves preparing the area - whether the eyebrows or the bikini area - by trimming the hair to less than 1 inch in length (if needed), and then applying talcum powder. The hair needs to be at least 1/4 to 1/2 inches in length, so the wax can effectively attach to the hair. The purpose of the talcum powder is to prevent the wax from sticking to the skin.

Next warm, melted wax is spread on the area, and strips of cloth are pressed into the wax. The goal here is for the cloth and hair to stick to the wax.

Once the wax hardens (usually within just a few minutes, depending on the type of wax used), the cloth strips are removed with a swift pull, in the opposite direction of hair growth. This will help in removing the full hair follicle with its root.

Any remaining hairs can be tweezed by the esthetician. Waxing keeps hair away from the treated area for 3-6 weeks, but keep in mind: hair must grow back to the 1/4 to 1/2 inch length before it can be waxed again. Many women report seeing hair growing back thinner and finer each time.

Waxing is not pain free. Taking an ibuprofen a half hour prior to waxing, or using No Scream Cream (cost: around ), can help minimize discomfort or pain. Red bumps or ingrown hairs may result from waxing. These can be prevented with exfoliation, or treated with an acid-based solution or hydrocortisone.

Types of Waxing:

Eyebrow Waxing:

Also known as eyebrow shaping, this is just what is sounds like. Less painful than waxing in the bikini area, this is often most women's first foray into the world of waxing. Many women choose to have their eyebrows sculpted in their day spa of choice, rather than at a traditional hair salon. For a larger section of eyebrow removal, waxing can be a preferred option over individual hair-plucking.

Leg Waxing:

This is often chosen as a substitute for shaving the legs. Some women purchase a leg waxing kit and use it at home, while others opt to get their legs waxed in a day spa or waxing salon. There is often a choice of getting a half leg wax or full leg wax. Which is chosen may depend on if you are looking to have smooth legs for wearing a dress, or for wearing a short skirt or bikini.

Bikini Waxing:

This is meant to make the skin around the ever-shrinking bikini coverage area free of body hair. As most women's bikini area skin is much more sensitive than other areas, asking your esthetician to use smaller strips of clothes (at least for the first time) is recommended. There are different options for a bikini wax: the American bikini wax (leaving a triangle of pubic hair); Playboy waxing (leaving a "landing strip" of pubic hair); or full Brazilian waxing (removing all pubic hair - front and back).

Brazilian Waxing:

This means waxing to remove all body hair from around and above the vagina, and also from within and around the butt crack (to use a commonly-understood term). Many believe this trend was popularized as women started to wear thong bikinis (popular in Brazil), and did not want to show body hair in the front or back. The actual origin of this term and style is more likely to be a group of 7 Brazilian sisters, who helped grow the trend in their New York City waxing salon in the 1980's.

Other areas that are commonly waxed include: toes, back, arms, lip, chin, and underarm.

A Good Waxing Salon:

There are hundreds if not thousands of waxing salons in San Diego. Don't just choose the cheapest waxing salon in your closest strip mall. You will most likely regret it if you do. Ask around, read online reviews, and ask for their staff's qualifications. A truly professional waxing esthetician wants to give you the look you want, with minimal discomfort. Tell them if you have any requests or apprehensions prior to the waxing procedure. If you like your esthetician, make sure to ask for them again next time.

You are the paying client; it's your body. Research, and then get the treatment and service you deserve.
